Company Description
Steel Horse Outfitters is a family focused enterprise with a passion for motorcycling and a desire to see people set free from a life of lack. Our family is not limited to the owners, but includes our co-laborers here and abroad. Since 2010, we have been supporting the work of our friend Jeremiah Swaray in Sierra Leone, West Africa. In 2014, after the Ebola outbreak, he found himself with about 110 orphans to care for. Approximately 70 of these kids are situated in homes with members of his community and church but 40 of them are in a building on the outskirts of Freetown. They live and go to school on the property. They don't have electricity or running water. We drilled a well near the property and equipped it with a hand pump. We've purchased a motorcycle for the staff to use to get provisions and two vans they use as taxis to make money to buy food. After visiting them for 10 days in 2016, we started working on a plan to help them become self-sufficient. Since motorcycles represent a major component of the transportation infrastructure and 1/2 to 2/3 of the electricity used in the country is produced using small personal generators, we want to train some of these children in small engine repair and maintenance as a means to lift them out of poverty and help them serve their community.
